Join us for The Monsters We Know: Black Horror as Resistance at Frontier Tower in San Francisco on July 11.

During this discussion, moderated by , , and will examine how Black horror transforms lived experience into powerful narratives of fear, truth, and liberation.

This conversation will explore the ways Black horror engages memory, survival, and resistance, offering space to reflect on the genre’s political, cultural, and imaginative power.

About Ayize Jama Everett

Ayize Jama-Everett calls the Bay Area his home despite being born in New York City. He holds a Master’s in Divinity, a Master’s in Clinical Psychology, and a Master’s in Fine Arts, Creative Writing. Jama-Everett has worked as a bartender, a translator, a drug and alcohol counselor, a stand-up comedian, a script doctor, a ghostwriter, a high school dean, a college professor, and for a brief time, a distiller of spirits.

In 2009, Jama-Everett self-published , which was later picked up and distributed by Small Beer Press. He’s written two more books in the series, (2015) and (2015). The fourth and final installment in The Liminal Series is forthcoming from Small Beer Press. Jama-Everett has also written a graphic novel entitled with two-time Eisner Award winner John Jennings. Tamika Thompson is the author of (Erewhon/Kensington), Graffiti, (Unnerving Books), which is the 2024 Next Generation Indie Book Awards WINNER for Horror, and which Publishers Weekly calls “powerful,” “unsettling,” and “terrifying,” as well as author of Salamander Justice (Madness Heart Press). She served as fiction editor for Foreword INDIES Award-winning anthology, Graffiti. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming in several speculative fiction anthologies as well as in Andromeda Spaceways Magazine, Interzone, Prairie Schooner, and The New York Times, among others. Her long fiction tale, “Bridget Has Disappeared,” was translated to Italian for Independent Legions’ Molotov Magazine, her story, “The Sand Ate Her,” is available in audio format at the Creepy podcast, and her tale, “The Creak on the Attic Stairs” is available in The Rack, Volume II, edited by Tom Deady. Justin C. Key is the author of The Hospital at the End of the World and The World Wasn't Ready for You. He wanted to write for as long as he can remember. He blended his passions for science and writing by penning short stories in middle school and sat down to draw up his first novel while studying Biology at Stanford University. He’s been writing ever since.

His short stories have appeared in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Crossed Genres, and KYSO Flash, as well as in the revolutionary children’s iPad application, FarFaria. He held a writing advice blog for several years at Scribophile.com and worked as a professional health blogger and content editor at WellnessFX while applying to medical school. About Frontier Tower
They built their first coliving house in Leipzig in 2013, just an hour south of Berlin called Ost-Apotheke—a community of 35 curious students, artists, and musicians. They curated and set guiding principles for the community while renovating the building in collaboration with all its members.
They built a techno club in the basement, a bar on the first floor, and a hostel on the second. All other floors were dedicated to living together. The community has lived in their building without their interference for the last 9 years. Read more here.
