The only ones who love South Portland Parks more than our residents are their pups! This year we are hosting a Howl-o-ween party of epic proportions to celebrate all of the South Portland dogs. The event will include a dog Halloween costume contest, a pup parade, local dog-themed vendors, and adoption information. So start planning out a costume for you and your 4-legged friend!Note: all dogs must be on a leash for the entirety of the event.
Schedule of Events
10-10:30am: The Party Starts!
Participants can visit vendors, socialize with other pups, take photos in the photo booth, and sign up for last minute costume contest registration (if space allows)
10:30-11:30am: Costume Contest
Costume contestants will meet at the gazebo, where each pup will be announced and walk through the gazebo
11:30am-11:45am: Pup Parade
All of the pups will line up on leash and walk with their owners in a parade around the pond to show off their pawesome costumes.
Attendees without pets & participating vendors are encouraged to hand out treats to the pups as they pass by!
11:45am-12pm: Winners Announced
Judges will deliberate during the parade and will announce the winners of each category when the parade ends! Winners of each category will go home with prizes.
Two ways to enter the Costume Contest:
1. In Person Contest-
Register for the in-person day-of costume contest using the "tickets" link or go to www.sopoparksrec.com. Check in that morning and be ready to walk across the gazebo with your pup!
Categories include: Funniest, Spookiest, Most Creative, Best Dog and Owner Duo
IN-PERSON COMPETITION IS CAPPED AT 40 DOGS
2. Online Contest-
We know that not all dogs are able to attend large event like this, but that doesn't make them any less cute! We want to see their costumes too. For that reason, we are hosting an online contest as well. To enter, send a picture of your dog in their costume to [email protected] along with your dog's name (and nicknames) and a short description of your pup (3-4 sentences). We will share these pics on our social media and announce the winner at the same time as the other categories.

This event is free to the public to attend. Pre-registration is only required for pups entering the contest as it is capped at 40 contestants. ****Please beware of scammers and do not contact anyone via direct message for space or "tickets" to this event****
