The Midwestern Harvesters - Lynn "Chirps" Smith (fiddle), Fred Campeau (banjo, Hawaiian guitar), and Jim Nelson (guitar) - have been playing together for over four decades, beginning with their long association with the Volo Bogtrotters. During those years these guys have forged an intuitive musical bond that brings out the best of each of them in this more intimate and relaxed trio setting. They share an affinity for and play the real rough and ready, gritty authentic old-time stuff, learned during visits with older musicians, or from obscure 78 RPM records found during excavations in dusty flea markets, forgotten nooks and corners of antique stores, the basements of funky record stores, or the occasional old barn. When these gents get together one can count on some lively Midwestern fiddle music, familiar and obscure folk songs, and always a few surprises.
