This immersive daylong retreat offers a fresh approach to understanding and nurturing meaningful partnerships through the lens of Buddhist wisdom and contemporary psychology. Rather than pursuing idealized connections or accepting unnecessary struggles, participants will discover the "middle way"—embracing the inherent challenges of intimacy while cultivating deeper connection, presence, and joy.
Throughout the day, we'll weave together teachings, guided meditations, and interactive exercises that address four essential dimensions of partnership:
Deep Listening: Learn how to truly hear yourself and others through mindfulness practices that create space for authentic expression. Discover how the Buddhist understanding of dukkha (stress/dissatisfaction) can transform your approach to relationship difficulties.
Finding Balance: Explore the natural tension between autonomy and connection. Identify your unique patterns and learn how respecting differences strengthens rather than threatens your bonds. Practice recognizing and releasing codependent tendencies that may arise in close relationships.
Skillful Conflict: Develop tools for navigating disagreements with patience and presence. Learn the art of genuine apology and forgiveness. Transform inevitable ruptures into opportunities for deeper trust and understanding.
Cultivating Joy: Unlearn perfectionism and embrace the natural rhythms of intimacy. Discover how awareness of impermanence enhances appreciation. Create simple rituals that bring playfulness and delight into your everyday connections.
This retreat is suitable for everyone interested in more conscious partnerships—whether currently in a relationship or not, whether exploring romantic partnerships, friendships, or family relationships. While rooted in Buddhist principles, no prior meditation experience is required. Come prepared to engage fully through guided exercises, periods of contemplation, and meaningful dialogue.
Participants will leave with practical tools they can immediately apply in their relationships, including meditation techniques, communication practices, and simple rituals to strengthen connection. Join us for a day of discovery that could transform your approach to partnership for years to come.
COST: The Dharma Center operates on the gift economy and the cost of the daylong is on a two-part sliding scale. The fee that you offer through the registration system ($50, $70, $89, or $108 or scholarship options of $25 or $10) supports our non-profit, which pays the costs of the website, administration, building, etc. In keeping with our 2,600-year-old tradition, the teachers of the retreat are not compensated but rather share the teachings freely. In turn, you are invited into the practice of dana, or generosity, a gift economy system that has been alive since the time of the Buddha. At the end, you are invited to make a donation to support the teachers in continuing their valuable work. Donations in any amount whatsoever are gratefully received, and the practice of generosity is always elective.
DATE: Sunday, April 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Durango Dharma Center, 1800 East Third Avenue, Suite 109 in Durango.
QUESTIONS: If you have questions, please reach out to Kurt, at [email protected] or 970-426-8983.
