THE INAUGURAL PERFORMANCE OF THE MEADOW SINGERSThis Concert will replace the 2025 Annual All Saints' Winter Lecture.
Date and time: 7.30pm on 23rd November 2024
Venue: All Saints’ Church, Upper Clatford, SP11 7HB.
This will be the first by this new Chamber Choral Group and draws on singers from across the Test Valley, Winchester and Salisbury.
The Programme includes a selection of much loved sacred choral music with works by JS Bach, John Rutter, John Tavener, Samuel Sebastian Wesley, Peter Warlock, Anton Bruckner and Edward Elgar. On a lighter note, the Choir will perform Calvin Carter’s “Good Night Sweetheart” as well as Jo’s own arrangement of “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square”. We are also very excited that Natalie Chambers, a professional opera singer who lives in Goodworth Clatford, has also agreed to perform.
The Meadow Singers is directed by Jo Fry who lives in Upper Clatford. Jo, a choral scholar at St Mary’s Cathedral in Edinburgh, founded the chamber choir ‘VOX' while reading music at Edinburgh University and conducted them for a decade. After graduating, Jo worked in the classical recording industry as a label manager, and then as a producer at Decca records where artists included Vladimir Ashkenazy and Alfred Brendel. He is now an Associate Director at Askonas Holt, managing several renowned conductors including Michael Tilson Thomas and Marin Alsop. He has composed numerous choral and orchestral works and short film scores, many of which have been performed and recorded.
All money raised will be distributed between All Saints’ Church Fabric Fund for new path lighting and ABCD Bethlehem, a charity improving the lives of children with disabilities across Palestine regardless of faith, race or gender (https://www.abcdbethlehem.org/).
