"The 'Red Death' had long devastated the country. No pestilence had been ever so fatal, or so hideous."THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH is a moving, interactive, site-specific show inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's timeless tale and adapted by Time Slip Theatre.
You're invited to join Prince Prospero at his castellated abbey for a masquerade ball. Here in seclusion, you're certain to outlast the Red Death, right? Guests will be guided through the seven chambers of Prospero's abbey and bear witness to all the horrors, hallucinations and hysteria taking place therein.
THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH is the final show of Time Slip's 2025-26 Three-Part-Series and the first-ever to be presented at Time Slip's new home in Old Louisville. The show will run May 29 - June 7 at Time Slip Theatre. There will be two shows per night: one at 7PM (Twilight) and one at 9PM (Moonlight). Those more nervous or averse to the dark should select the Twilight performance, whereas those seeking more tantalizing terrors may select the Moonlight 9PM shows.
In both versions, the audience will be moving through the space. Every route has accessibility paths. Please know there will be no seating throughout the experience as this is a show to be moved through, not to be watched.
Given the interactive nature of this show no late entry will be permitted. If you arrive after your show's scheduled start time, you will not be admitted and not issued a refund.
"To and fro in the seven chambers there stalked, in fact, a multitude of dreams."

FAQ
Q: What does it mean that the show is "interactive"?
A: This is a moving show, meaning you as an audience member will travel through rooms following a guide. You'll discover various scenes and moments within each room. Actors will interact with audience members (but never touch them), and the audience truly is a part of the show.
Q: What's the difference between the two showtimes?
A: Our Twilight shows (at 7PM) will take place while there is still natural light throughout the building, and certain moments will be played slightly less intense. This is a good option for those who get spooked easily or prefer more light.
Our Moonlight shows (at 9PM) are more catered to the horror inherent in the original text. Shrouded in deeper darkness, this version of the show leans into Poe's Gothic terror and may feature more intense moments of frightening sequences.
Q: The show is moving, but what if I have accessibility needs?
A: The various routes in the show all have wheelchair-accessible paths, and stairs can be completely avoided if need be. Because the show is so fast-paced, there is no seating throughout the production. Should that be an issue, we ask that you reach out to us at [email protected] so that we make accommodations in advance.
Both versions are the same script, but your level of darkness is up to you.
Q: Why is there no late entry?
A: Because this show is moving, it will follow a very strict timeline and audience members will disperse throughout the building early in the experience. We will be unable to accomodate anyone who arrives after the show begins, and we will not issue a refund.
