The Marvelous Mr. Mozart

The Cincinnati Choral Society, in collaboration with the Blue Ash Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, presents “The Marvelous Mr. Mozart.” This project commemorates the 270th anniversary of the composer's death with three representative masterworks from court, cathedral, and stage. The 23-year-old begrudgingly wrote the Coronation Mass K. 317 in Salzburg to fulfill the requirements of a job he didn't want, bristling under the archbishop, and he created the most beloved of his sacred works along the way. That same year, with an eye toward escaping to Vienna, he composed the quintessential double concerto of the keyboard repertoire, his Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra in E-flat, K. 365. A decade later he wrote his Overture to The Magic Flute for Vienna's Freihaustheater, as prelude to the opera that would be Mozart's final completed work.
