The Martyrs of La Florida: Lessons On The New Evangelization

Saint John Paul II is known for having coined the term "New Evangelization" during one of his visits to Haiti, where he called not for a re-evangelization America, but for a New Evangelization, "new in its ardor, methods and expression."

But did you know that this New Evangelization was already applied in the 1500s by Spanish missionaries in La Florida? There, Franciscan missionaries brought the Christian faith to Native cultures, who embraced it as the fulfillment of their beliefs and died trying to defend it from Protestant invaders.
