After a decade as associate artistic director of the Keegan Theatre, founded in 1996, Susan Marie Rhea, the next speaker in The Georgetowner's Cultural Leadership Breakfast Series, became the company's artistic director in 2017. She joined Keegan as an actor after training in New York at Circle in the Square Theatre School. While continue to act, she has directed or co-directed nearly two dozen productions, receiving six Helen Hayes nominations and one Helen Hayes award.
Keegan purchased its current home at 1742 Church St. NW, just east of Dupont Circle, in 2013, reopening the renovated building two years later. Since touring a production of Tennessee Williams’s “A Streetcar Named Desire” to Ireland in 1999, the company has performed many classic American plays there. Rhea married Keegan founder Mark A.
