Dr Heather Falvey pieces together the history of the house and the story of its demise
About this Event

During the 1450s a compact but imposing red-brick castle, later known as The More, was built on the outskirts of Rickmansworth. During the next 90 years it underwent alterations and extensions, doubling its size. By 1600 it was in ruins. In its heyday it’s illustrious owners, who included Archbishop George Neville, Cardinal Wolsey and Henry VIII, entertained many visitors there. Using original documents, an archaeological report produced in the 1950s and subsequent writings, Heather has pieced together a history of the house and the story of its demise.

Heather Falvey is primarily an early modern historian, having been awarded a PhD in History from the University of Warwick in 2007. The More was her first research project — commenced in about 1990 — but, as more information has come to light over the years, Heather has amended her account.
