Professor Joanna Bourke reflects on trauma and ‘wound nationalism’ in modern American history since 1960, examining the ‘long war’ against perceived enemies, the militarisation of evangelical Christianity, shifting sexualised and racialised forms of violence, and the politics of radical justice.

About the speaker:

Joanna Bourke FBA OBE is Professor Emerita of History at Birkbeck College, and award-winning author of 16 books including Disgrace; Birkbeck: 200 Years of Radical Education for Working People, and Five Evil Women.
