Following on from their beloved hit show Magnificent 7, the spotlight falls on the greatest music of the 80’s, the decade which spawned bad hair and outrageous fashion, as Centrestage pays tribute to a dozen of your favourite bands of the 80s in “The Magnificent 80’s”.
The show comes to Centrestage at Baywest on 15th and 16th November and is specially staged for the office party season.
The Magnificent 80s will take you on a nostalgic trip back to your youth, to a decade that blended stadium rock, new wave, electronica and pop metal. With its commercial, catchy hooks and increased pop aesthetic, the era launched a new level of lighters aloft, spandex, and the marriage of guitar and keyboards.
The 11-piece Centrestage All-Star Band, joined by the Horny brass section, will recreate 12 of the most popular bands of this distinctive period as they pay tribute to The Eurythmics, Wham!, Billy Idol, Bob Marley, The Pretenders, Huey Lewis & The News, Heart, The Bangles, Cyndi Lauper, Bruce Springsteen, Roxette and Queen.
Helmed by musical director and guitarist Hugo Kleinhans, along with fellow Big Man and Bear vocalist and keyboard player Megan Du Toit, the band consists of Gino Fabbri on drums, Andrew Warneke on bass, Curtis Kettledas on sax, Shaun Lyon on trumpet, Tiago Vital on trombone, Rory McLaren on keys and vocals, along with Kalyn Du Plessis, Tara-Jane Stern and Thuba Myeki as fronting vocalists.
