Step into a world of myth, saga, and legend at our Magic of Middle Earth exhibition opening event—a full day celebration of fantasy, craft, and living folklore.
From the moment you arrive, you’ll be welcomed by two towering, friendly tree-giants between 12–3pm, setting the tone for an immersive journey into our ancient, enchanted realm.
Explore the Svartland Vikings reenactment encampment, where warriors bring the spirit of the Northmen to life with authentic kit, storytelling, and demonstrations that echo the sagas that inspired Tolkien himself.
Prosthetic makeup artist Bloody Jojo will be offering live demonstrations of techniques used in film and television, revealing how actors are transformed into fearsome or fantastical beings. Visitors will also have the chance to experience their own transformation by having optional small battle wounds applied (price TBC)—perfect for those wishing to leave looking suitably battle-worn.
Wander the Fantasy Craft Fayre, featuring an array of talented makers and resident craftspeople, including:
• Elf Crowns by Indigo Lilac Studio
• Auntie Rosie’s Amigurumi
• Ella’s Creations
• Ribbesford Witch
• Tintype photography portraits
• From The Wildwood will be offering bespoke, personalised jewellery—have your name or initials engraved in Elvish or runes—alongside a limited-edition collection of handcrafted Middle-earth inspired pieces.
The Green Theatre becomes a stage for myth and music throughout the day:
• 12:30–12:45pm – A powerful performance of Beowulf by Domenic Russell
• 1:30–3:30pm – Live folk music from Wychbury, filling the air with atmospheric, wandering melodies
Meanwhile, the Garden Kitchen will be serving a hearty BBQ all afternoon, ensuring that hungry hobbits and gluttonous goblins alike are well fed.
Dress to impress and arrive as your favourite Lord of the Rings character—there will be prizes for the best costumes in both children’s and adult categories.
A day of storytelling, craftsmanship, music, and myth awaits—where the worlds of Tolkien and folklore come vividly to life.
