He encounters a giant serpent, the evil Queen of the Night, and her daughter, Pamina, who is being held captive by the high priest, Sarastro. With the assistance of Papageno, a comical bird catcher, and other magical characters, Tamino is able to free Pamina; however, both she and Tamino must face the terrifying ordeals and trials of water and fire together, while only being protected by his “Magic Flute.” It is a story about triumph, courage, and wisdom overcoming evil. It is said that The Magic Flute was the greatest operatic success of Mozart’s entire career, and it is an absolute masterpiece of musical theatre. The story is a combination of life-threatening situations combined with moments of side-splitting comedy and special effects.
