Avast ye bilge rats! Stop frigging in the rigging and prepare to board ship! It be 30 long years since those scurvy sea dogs known as the Luvdup Twins finally lowered the sails on their legendary "Jolly Roger" night and now it be time to honour this occasion with much merriment, dancing and drinking of grog. The diabolical duo will be celebrating this 30 year anniversary with one of their much celebrated evenings of water-bound mischievousness.
For those salty scoundrels who have not heard the tales and legends oft-whispered round the fire on cold, dark nights, "Jolly Roger" was a weekly Wednesday night party launched by Luvdup at the Paradise Factory in 1993 and was an immediate success that ran for several months.
In spring of 1994 the boys were offered a bag of gold doubloons to move Jolly Roger to the Hacienda which - alas -proved to be an ill-fated venture, cruelly chronicled in Hooky's book "The Hacienda: How Not to Run a Club". Here ye will find wild and unfounded claims of the Luvdup boys demanding that a pirate ship be built inside the club at unimaginable cost, effectively sinking the Hacienda beneath the waves - "the biggest loss-maker of any night at the Hacienda" be his claim... We say pay little heed to these wild rambling... Although it has to be admitted that the move was undoubtedly an unwise and foolhardy choice and "Jolly Roger" never did find the same success at the Hacienda that it had enjoyed at it's former home.
But on July 20th we be here not to mourn the demise of "Jolly Roger" but to celebrate those glorious days when "Jolly Roger" sailed the High Seas in all it's glory!
Therefore, at 3 bells on the 20th day of the month of July in the year of Our Lord 2024, those captains of chaos Adrian and Mark Luvdup will be setting sail with a hand-picked crew of seadogs, bilge rats, Jack Tars and scoundrels for an evening of debauchery, dancing and a selection of sea shanties so wondrous they will make ye weep tears of joy behind your eye-patch and tap your wooden legs in time to the beat with much enthusiasm.
From 3pm we shall be meeting up for music and ales at the Atlas tavern - renowned for its comely serving wenches and foul clientele - and then we leave the land-lubbers behind at 5.45pm as we sail out on a sunny Summer's evening of misadventure and merriment, returning in a bedraggled and sorry state around 10 bells...
Only the most scurrilous buccaneers need apply as room on this ship of fools is strictly limited, and these rare and precious tickets cost a measly 25 of the Queen's pounds, so no increase from the last couple of years as we know times be hard!
Please send Adrian a PM on FB if you be after tickets and he will sign you up for this motley crew of rogues, rapscallions and ne'er do wells!
