Join us for a dynamic lecture-performance with The Lua Project!
Blending live music with conversation, this program explores the creation of their recent album Los Appalachianos, examining its themes, influences, and artistic process. The performance will be followed by an audience Q&A. Before the performance, enjoy late access to the galleries to see We the People: The World in Our Commonwealth.
Lua is a cultural pollinator, blending musical styles across continents and centuries. Their work explores themes of family, community, labor, and loss, drawing on Mexican and Appalachian traditions, Eastern European tonalities, baroque melodies, and narrative storytelling to create a living, evolving musical tradition.
This project was supported, in part, by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, which receives support from the Virginia General Assembly and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
