The Longest Night: Persephone’s JourneyA Solstice Gathering of Story, Song, and Sacred
Part I – Descent into Darkness
Saturday, December 20, 2025
7:00 p.m. Community Hall, Third Street Center
On the longest night of the year, we gather not to push the dark away, but to enter it together. Through the ancient myth of Persephone and Demeter, we’ll explore what it means to be taken into darkness, to grieve what has been lost, and to discover the unexpected power that can grow there. This immersive, participatory ritual will weave storytelling, live music, candlelight, and shared silence.
Co-created by Two Rivers Unitarian Universalist (TRUU) and The Center for Human Flourishing, this Solstice offering is open to all — all faiths, no faith, the curious and the questioning. Part II – Return of the Light happens on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Calaway Room at Third Street Center. We return to complete the arc: welcoming back the light, honoring what has changed in us overnight, and celebrating the slow turning toward longer days. You’re invited to attend both Part I and Part II as a flowing journey — or come to either one on its own. Each stands alone, and together they form one story.
