About this Event
Join our upcoming CPD session with Nisha Duggal. As part of our Spaces to Explore project funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, The Line is hosting four full-day CPD sessions across two years, open to anyone who works within educational settings.
The Line is East London’s public art trail. Its outdoor exhibition programme offers a journey through a dynamic urban landscape where everyone can explore art, nature, and heritage for free. The route runs between Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and The O2, following the waterways and the line of the Greenwich Meridian.
Our first CPD session of the year will be hosted on 25 March by multi-disciplinary artist Nisha Duggal. Meeting at 10am at Star Lane DLR station, this all-day CPD session will include a walk on The Line, viewing recent commissions by Katie Schwab and Helen Cammock and more. We will then stop at The House Mill, a local heritage site, where Nisha will invite participants to explore their own ideas around art and education, with a presentation and short film screening.
As the group then experiments with a range of materials, imagery and interactive activities, Nisha will introduce new approaches to collaboration and co-production, whilst encouraging participants to make artworks with personal meaning. Nisha will continue developing the artwork created during the session in her studio, which we will digitise and send to participants. This follow-up highlights the ongoing spirit of collaboration and co-production, keeping the creative dialogue alive beyond the session.
In this session, you will gain hands-on experience testing out simple creative experiments you can take back to your teaching, enhancing student engagement and learning. It will also be an opportunity to meet with other teachers and learning practitioners within The Line’s network, exchange ideas and hear more about our school's programme over the next two years.
All confirmed participants will be asked to email Nisha Duggal at a photo (medium-quality is fine). This can be a photo of something that is personal or meaningful for them, such as a favourite place, pet, person or memory. Please send this to Nisha no later than Tuesday 18 March at 5pm. Please title the email subject as ‘Participant photo: The Line CPD’.

About Spaces to Explore
Spaces to Explore: Prioritising Process in Creative Learning is a two-year collaborative project that integrates process-driven art, experiential learning, and meaningful play, helping students engage more deeply with their education.
The Line has recently received funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, who work collaboratively with organisations and individuals who are working to build a just society. The grant we have been awarded is part of the foundation’s Arts-Based Learning programme and will enable us to deliver two years of sustained collaborative learning programming with three primary schools in Newham: Vicarage Primary School, Star Lane Primary School and Harris Chobham Academy Primary.
As Spaces to Explore emphasises process and experimentation in arts-based learning, we will not be establishing specific learning outcomes for students. Our outcomes will focus on the process of co-designing with teachers, and the unique contribution offered by The Line for arts-based learning.
Supported by Paul Hamlyn Foundation.
