The Legato Orchestral Experience is a three-day music camp held in late September/early October, where young people can experience playing in a full symphony orchestra. Young musicians aged 10 to 18 (who have studied their instrument for more than 2 years and read music) can immerse themselves in an intensive musical experience culminating in an orchestral concert at the Charles Darwin University Theatre. Pianists and saxophonists may apply. We offer two orchestral piano positions (a shared role), but many pianists enjoy contributing to the orchestra's percussion section. The Legato Choir includes all participants and helps develop aural skills. We offer three exciting electives and are pleased to confirm that the Royal Australian Navy Band is again offering a Jazz option. The other two electives for 2026 are still to be finalised. Updates and details will be sent to participants in the weeks prior to the event.
This year, for the first time, we'll be joined by a small group of music students from Timor-Leste. This cross-cultural initiative is very exciting and we look forward to welcoming them.]
The event is held over three days: Monday 28th September to Wednesday 30th September (9 am to 4:30 pm) + Wednesday concert 5 pm to 6:30 pm
