Immerse yourself in the pure, profound joy and bliss of ‘kirtan’ chanting – the yoga of song – and connect with others in our friendly community over supper and chai. Join us in the peaceful ambience of St Christopher’s for an unforgettable experience of unity and connection.
Yogic chanting with Bhakti Rasa involves repeating sacred mantras and sounds to create a high-energy vibration in the body and mind. It brings us back to our innate, loving presence.
The benefits of chanting include:
* Easing an anxious or troubled mind.
* Relaxing tension in the body.
* Opening the heart.
* Being happy and joyful for no good reason!
* Feelings of natural love.
* Deepening of Self-awareness.
* Promoting healthy emotional expression and release.
Who is Bhakti Rasa?
Bhakti Rasa is a group of experienced devotional musicians, based in Fremantle, led by Asakti Evans and Branan Silvius.
Asakti has been playing harmonium and leading kirtan internationally for over 30 years. Her beautiful, strong vocals and vibrant presence leads us through the joy and ecstasy of mantra in the traditional form of ‘kirtan’ chanting via call-and-response. Branan is a dedicated Druhpad vocalist of Hindustani Raga music. His singing conveys an emotional depth and celebration of sacred sound.
Joining Asakti and Branan are other beloved local musicians, including Jamie David on guitar and Mel Robinson on cello.
Like singing, chanting is energising. And great fun! It gets you beyond your mental chatter and into the depths of your heart.
Chanting is for everyone. It requires no religious beliefs, previous experience or singing ability.
You might already practise yoga, meditate, pray, attend church or enjoy sacred ceremony. Chanting is a universal aspect of spiritual devotional practice. It’s a powerful way to deepen self-realisation and inner peace.
If you’re new to chanting, just love music or a good singalong, we’d love to welcome you! Chanting is a non-judgmental exploration of the heart, independent of vocal skill or musical technique.
And we keep it real – there’s no frills, and sometimes glitches, but plenty of heart and soul!
After the kirtan, we hope you’ll stay for a chat with our friendly community over a healthy vegetarian supper – including our delicious homemade chai: warm, milky, Indian-spiced tea, caffeine and dairy-free.
“Thanks for such a wonderful evening. The chanting was amazing, incredible vibrations and feelings of joy.” ~ Carli
“When our voices unite, it brings us closer to each other and into the natural joy of our own hearts.” ~ Natalie
More About Chanting
Chanting has its roots in traditional Bhakti Yoga in ancient India, stemming back around 5000 years during the Vedic times. And interestingly, it is one of the pure forms of yogic devotional practice, still alive and well in India today. Here in the west we are coming to appreciate chanting’s profound healing and spiritual value.
The mantras we chant are simple to learn. They are spiritual, without being religious. Words are provided, since we often chant in Sanskrit, the ancient language of yoga.
Each mantra honours the form or the formless, transcendental aspects of Mother Earth, God or the Divine. You may hear us mention Shiva, Krishna, Buddha, Ganesh or Ma, as well as reference Christianity.
Mantras are about the universal journey of the human spirit, the nature of the human heart and the beauty that resides in each of us.
