The Joy of Darning (Socks)
About this Event
Visible Darning Workshop – Repair, Relax & Reimagine Your Knitwear
A tiny hole doesn't have to mean the end of your favourite socks or jumper. Instead, it could become the beginning of something even more beautiful.
Join us for this fun and relaxing 2-hour workshop where you'll discover the creative art of visible darning—a simple hand-stitching technique that transforms worn or damaged knitwear into unique pieces full of colour, character and personality.
Visible darning is about celebrating repair rather than hiding it. Inspired by the slow fashion movement, this mindful practice encourages us to value what we already own, reduce textile waste and reconnect with the stories our clothes tell.
In this hands-on workshop, Kirsty will guide you through the techniques needed to confidently repair holes in knitted garments. You'll learn how to choose suitable yarns and tools, prepare your garment, and create beautiful woven repairs that are both practical and decorative.
We'll use socks as our learning project because they're the perfect size to master the technique, but the skills you learn can easily be applied to jumpers, cardigans, scarves, beanies and many other knitted favourites.
Whether you're brand new to mending or looking to expand your repair skills, you'll enjoy a welcoming, supportive environment where you can slow down, stitch, chat and connect with others who share a love of creativity and sustainable fashion.
By the end of the workshop you'll leave with:
- A creatively repaired pair of socks (or another knitted garment)
- Practical visible darning skills to use on future projects
- The confidence to repair rather than replace your clothing
- Inspiration to embrace a more creative, sustainable wardrobe
- A renewed appreciation for the joy of making, mending and mindful fashion
Every stitch is a small act of sustainability. Come along and discover how repairing your clothes can be creative, relaxing and incredibly rewarding.
