About this Event
Cork Concert Orchestra proudly presents The Journey, what promises to be an unforgettable evening of music at Cork City Hall’s Concert Hall on October 12th at 8:00 PM.
This spectacular event will feature an orchestra of over 100 musicians, led by the internationally acclaimed conductor Neil Thomson, as they embark on a musical voyage culminating in Gustav Holst’s epic masterpiece, The Planets.
The evening will open with iconic film scores by John Williams, where audiences will be invited to explore how Holst’s music influenced Williams legendary compositions, such as the Imperial March from Star Wars, the themes from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and E.T.'s Flying Theme. Compère Elmarie Mawe will guide the audience through these fascinating connections.
A highlight of the night, Holst’s The Planets, will be performed alongside a stunning visual projection of ‘Cosmic Designs and the Planets,’ screened with special permission from NASA. Audiences will gain a deeper appreciation for Holst’s influence on Williams work, especially in the powerful Mars, the Bringer of War, which inspired parts of the Star Wars score.
Additionally, included in the programme is a rare performance of Holst’s ‘Rig Veda’, Group 3, Opus 26, making this concert truly unique.
Tickets are available from Pro Musica on Oliver Plunkett Street or online via Eventbrite, starting from €25 (online booking fees apply). Don’t miss this extraordinary night of music!
