Cork Folk Festival 45th edition

The Cork Folk Festival is preparing for a spectacular 45th edition from 2-6th October here is a rundown of what to expect.

Headlining this year’s festival will be Paul Brady who has featured in several major folk bands including The Johnstones and Planxty.

Frankie Gavin is among the Festival highlights and he will return with De DANNAN featuring Catherine Mc Hugh Ian Kinsella Diarmuid Ó Meachair and Kaitlin Cullen-Verhauz along with one of Cork’s finest songwriters Jack O ‘Rourke. 

Another highlight with be Iarla Ó Lionáird who has carved a long and unique career in music Iarla will be accompanied by Cork pianist Cormac McCarthy and Matthew Berrill along with Rosie McCarthy.

On Thursday we feature Ger Wolfe in Coughlan’s and at the Triskel Seth Lakeman an English folk singer songwriter along with Moynihan. Later on Thursday we will feature an all star line up for a concert commemoration Sliabh Luachra fiddle player Denis Murphy and a Céilí in Douglas GAA.

The lineup for the weekend is going to be hectic as usual. Friday we present North Cregg with Christy Leahy Liam Flannigan Ciaran Coughlan Martin Leahy and Claire-Anne Lynch. Saturday features open air events and a workshop with Matt Cranitch & Jackie Daly and a concert remembering the Phoenix Bar and a concert featuring Charlie Harris Geraldine & Eamonn Cotter and Maeve Donnelley. Later on Saturday we feature the acclaimed fiddle player Nollaig Casey one of Ireland’s fast-rising stars Niall McCabe and the incomparable Mike McGoldrick.

The Book ‘Reeling down the Years’ Cork Folk Festival by William Hammond will be launched and on sale over the festival weekend.

The festival is offering a Season Ticket for 75 Euro it includes all 7 An Spailpín Fánach Concerts.
