About the show:

The Jonathan Lorentz Group plays jazz, blues, original compositions, as well as free-conceived group improvisations. Inspired by the music of the 40s, 50s and 60s, the band is led by the hard-boppin' Jonathan "Lockjaw" Lorentz (tenor saxophone) and features Jason Palmer (trumpet), Tom Robinson (piano), Brendan Dowd (upright bass) and Tim Gilmore (drums).

Jonathan Lorentz is a passionate performer who has pursued music on the saxophone for the last 30 years. He holds a PhD in Jazz & Contemporary Music Studies from New York University and is dedicated to keeping music integral to everyday life in his community. He has grown the live music scene in New Hampshire since his arrival in 2011 and has produced over 200 concerts of touring jazz artists in multiple locations throughout the state, garnering praise from the legendary Downbeat Magazine, as well as NH Magazine, the Hippo Press & New Hampshire Public Radio.

Jon’s jazz trio album “Borderlands” (his first for the United Kingdom's Métier Jazz label) was released to critical acclaim, and has received airplay on radio stations throughout the world. Fanfare Magazine's Lynn René Bayley remarked that "Jonathan Lorentz has really got it: a great style, an explorative mind and a concept that goes beyond the usual fare you hear from jazz groups." In addition to leading his Jonathan Lorentz Group, he fronts the gospel-tinged Jon Lorentz’s Soul Revival, and plays organ with Impulse3.

A Listening Room Experience

Hermit Woods is excited to bring talented artists from New England and beyond to perform for you. Each performance will provide you with an intimate, up-close, and personal experience with the performing artists. We ask our audience please refrain from talking during the featured show. Your silence will allow the artists and the audience to immerse themselves in the experience, which is not otherwise possible in larger, noisier environments.

Doors open at 5:30 pm for a complimentary wine tasting. The Loft Doors open at 6:00. We encourage you to arrive early for our wine tasting and enjoy food and wine before the show. The kitchen will close at 7:00 pm. When the featured artists takes the stage we will ask that the audience remain quiet during the performance. After the show, we invite you to interact with the artists and purchase any music or merchandise offerings if available.
