The Jazz Poets of San Antonio 20 Years Celebration
About this Event
20 Years of The Jazz Poets of San Antonio
Twenty years. Countless poems. A mic. And a whole lotta improv.
Join us at The Beacon at Midtown Gallery & Studios as we celebrate 20 years of Jazz Poets of San Antonio—a beloved San Antonio tradition where poetry and jazz meet, mingle, and sometimes surprise each other!
Led by Eduardo C. Garza, The Jazz Poets of San Antonio make any space unique space where poets take the mic and the musicians listen—not to accompany a poem they already know, but to discover the music hiding inside it. The band improvises in the moment, responding to each readers' words, rhythm, emotion and energy. Sometimes soulful. These improv collaborations are sometimes playful. Sometimes unexpected. Always completely alive!
For two decades, The Jazz Poets have opened a mic to experienced poets, first-timers, writers, dreamers and anyone brave enough to step up and share original words or even read a favorite poem. Meet the band and the founding director, Eduardo.
Come celebrate this long lasting San Anto band and experience what happens when words and rhythm are married in sound, and a poem becomes something neither poet nor musician could have created alone.
