The Jays is an act featuring jazz standards, original jazz composition and music from various other genres, and including many original pieces. John Funk Jr plays piano, guitar and bass...sometimes all at once. Joyce Funk sings, delivering jazz expressions with power and emotion that creates a memorable music experience no matter the venue. Usually, the group is accompanied by Darren Bradford, a drummer they've worked with for many years. His skills allow the group to explore improvisation with uncanny rapport and moments of surprising synchrony.
The Jays have been playing jazz in the Casa Grande area for 15 years. They started as Keoni Funk Jazz Band and then morphed into J and J Jazz. Their current iteration, The Jays, was founded last year. Tickets are $10.
