The Innovation Exchange: The Digital Exchange

Taking place at Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club, The Innovation Exchange is a lunchtime event (11am – 2 pm) where Cornish businesses can meet to engage, gather knowledge and connect with other businesses in Cornwall.

Paul Howarth - AKUMEN

Paul's extraordinary life experience provides him with a unique speaking platform and fuels his passion for helping people understand others, giving them a voice, and ensuring that healthcare is always safe.

Paul is an expert ontologist specialising in healthcare, having personally read and manually themed the comments of several hundred thousand patients, employees, and people with mental health challenges, gives Paul a unique expert patient perspective. Akumen the company he founded has now digitally themed and analysed over twelve million patient comments for more than fifty healthcare organisations, including all of NHS Wales. Every day, Akumen processes 10,000 comments, equivalent to 150,000 words, uncovering valuable insights for improvement and innovation, giving patients a collective voice.

Paul’s holy grail is the study of meaning and wisdom, the catalyst for this pursuit, the near-death experience at the time of the first accident. By mapping 40,000 wisdom quotes Paul will uncover the DNA of Wisdom which he hopes will steer Artificial Intelligence towards much needed wisdom.

Chris Weavill - HERTZIAN

Founded in 2015, Hertzian are an AI and product company that focuses on the analysis of free-text across a wide range of customer channels. Based in Cornwall, England, they create platforms using the latest Machine Learning technology and Cloud infrastructure that provides never seen before customer insights for organisations around the world.

Started as part of Falmouth Universities Launchpad programme, they were born after the founding team saw a clear need for organisations to be able to capture and understand the vast amounts of data being posted online daily about their products and services.

Designed to accelerate innovation and economic growth, STRIDE delivers bespoke high value, intensive interventions to businesses through a series of interlinked reinforcing activities which deliver true innovation with measurable business improvements that link to new funding opportunities.

Building on the success of the University of Plymouth flagship business innovation project in Cornwall, Acceleration Through Innovation (ATI), STRIDE focuses on those sectors detailed within the Good Growth Investment Plan - clean energy resources, geo-resources, data and space, visitor economy and agri-food. The project will also support businesses outside of these sectors where there are clear opportunities for research and innovation to drive growth and productivity.
