Whether by choice, by happenstance, or by the force of shifting geopolitics, Maine has become home to diverse people from all walks of life and around the globe. Now, amid changing political winds, immigrants face increased racism and discrimination, threats of deportation, and weakening support as organizations helping them confront funding cuts. And for women immigrants in particular, these challenges are compounded. Yet these immigrants have much to teach us about resilience, the meaning of freedom, and the value of democracy.Join Islandport Press and Back Cove Books for an evening panel discussion featuring women immigrants who will share their stories, concerns, and hopes for the future of life in Maine and America.
Our distinguished panelists include:
Deqa Dhalac, Maine State Representative
Amran Osman, Founder, Generational Noor, Lewiston
Maza Mohamed, Pharmacist
Moderator:
Eisha Khan, Program Manager at Maine Health
A portion of proceeds from the evening's book sales will be donated to the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project (ILAP).
This event is free and open to the public.
