The Illumination of Historic Polegreen Church
About this Event
Polegreen is a place where history still feels close. Its colonial meeting house is tied to Samuel Davies and the fight for religious freedom in Virginia, and this year the Illumination is part of our Virginia 250 programming. Come walk the grounds, hear the music, and be part of the season at one of Hanover County’s most important historic sites.
Throughout the afternoon you can enjoy live performances by handbells, a fife and drum corps with a short question and answer, a school band, and an elementary school choir. Families can have a photo taken with Santa in the open meeting house, with a professional photographer on hand. There will be a craft table for children, hot coffee from River's Edge Coffee, and Polegreen books and ornaments for sale. Krispy Kreme donuts by the dozen are available to pre-order, with proceeds supporting the Historic Polegreen Church Foundation.
At 4:55 pm we will gather for a countdown, the lighting, and a closing carol led by our young singers.
Please dress warmly, as most of the event is outdoors. Admission is free, but we ask everyone to register so we can plan for our guests. Santa photo times are limited, so reserve a time slot when you register.
