Synopsis
The Human Voice (originally La Voix Humaine), written by Jean Cocteau and first performed in 1930, is a powerful one-act monodrama. The play centers on a woman engaged in a final, desperate telephone conversation with her lover.
Performed by a single actor, the play explores the fragile boundaries between connection and isolation, delving deeply into the psychology of heartbreak.
The Human Voice is widely regarded as a precursor to modern psychological drama, capturing the raw intensity of a woman negotiating loss and the cruel ambiguity of technology as both savior and tormentor.
