About this Event
For over a century, the vibrant art form of song, dance and storytelling known as musical theatre has captivated audiences across the globe. From its early beginnings with classical operetta to the Golden Age of Broadway with iconic shows like My Fair Lady & Westside Story, to modern masterpieces like Hamilton, this talk will shine a light on key developments in musical theatre history. The talk will also explore overshadowed figures and lesser told stories as well as challenge taken-for-granted ideas about musical theatre, revealing a history which is more complex than at first may seem.
Join Professor Millie Taylor in tracing the history of musical theatre, discovering how musical theatre has reflected societal changes, pushed artistic boundaries, and evolved into the global phenomenon it is today. Whether you’re a musical theatre enthusiast, a performer or simply curious about what goes on behind the scenes, this talk will illuminate the key milestones, influential creators, and the timeless appeal of musicals throughout the ages.
Doors open at 7pm, talk starts at 7.30pm - come down early to grab a good seat!
