The Island Men, in partnership with Carolina Beach Bar Club and Carolina Beach Mural Project, are throwing a fundraiser to restore the Hermit mural "School of Common Sense" at The Last Resort. This mural, painted by local Artist Rob Fogle, was the inspiration for the CB Mural Project. The wall and the mural both need some refurbishment. You can expect BBQ plates, huge raffle, Artist meet & greet, Autographed giclées of the original Mural and MORE.
@Seaworthy will be serving up a special HERMIT COCKTAIL from Friday, July 12- Sunday, July 14 with proceeds donated to Island Men!
The Fort Fisher Hermit, Robert E. Harrill, became a hermit in 1955, at the age of 62, having hitchhiked to Fort Fisher on the North Carolina coast from Morganton, North Carolina. Harrill settled in an abandoned World War II bunker set in a salt marsh beside the Cape Fear River in the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area. Several documentaries have been made on Mr. Harrill.
The goal is to have this mural ready for CB's 100th birthday in 2025. Join us for some fun as we raise monies to restore a mural that honors one of the island's most famous characters. Any funding not used to restore the Hermit mural will be donated to the CB Mural Project for their Centennial Public Art projects.
