Theatre: This is an original, abridged translation with dance and live popular music (our trilogy features original songs as well as selections from Led Zeppelin, Cream, the Kinks, The Band, Santana, The Stone Roses, Oasis, Howlin’ Wolfe, and The Reverend Gary Davis).
This ancient Greek tragedy tells the story of Hercules after he returns home from war. Hercules murders a corrupt king, and, in a fit of madness, slays his wife and children. He is suicidal when he realizes what he has done, until his comrade Theseus helps him face the future.
We invite everyone to stay for a dialogue with local veterans concerning their interpretation of the play. Our project is based on the work of VA psychiatrist Jonathan Shay who argues Greek tragedy was a form of cultural therapy of, for, and by veterans and an audience traumatized by war.
