About The Book
The Helpful Leader by James Oyola is not a book about tactics. It is a book about truth. The truth that you cannot build a healthy team with a depleted leader. The truth that depletion is not just exhaustion. It is everything you carry beneath the surface that you have never examined. The inherited bias. The unresolved wound. The version of yourself you built to survive that is now quietly running your leadership without your permission.
This book was written from 20 years of real experience across five countries, global operations, and some of the most demanding environments leadership can produce. James wrote it because he believes that the most underdeveloped leadership tool in any organization is not a skill. It is soul health. What lives inside the leader before they ever open their mouth. This is not a book about management theory. It is a field guide for the real work of leadership: knowing your people deeply, managing your own ego, navigating conflict without destroying relationships, and building teams that can withstand the kind of pressure that reveals character.
The Helpful Leader introduces the M.E.N.D. Leadership Framework and asks every leader one foundational question. Not how well are you performing, but how whole are you? Because what you carry, you lead. Whether you are managing your first team or leading a department of hundreds, The Helpful Leader gives you the framework, the stories, and the practical tools to become the kind of leader people follow.

James currently serves as a Customer Care Leader working on the FIFA World Cup 2026™ project with a diverse group of professionals ready to deliver the largest sporting event in the world.

But none of that is why James wrote this book. James wrote “The Helpful Leader” because he spent years leading from places he had never examined. And the day he started doing that work, everything changed. Not just in how he led. More importantly, in how he lived. The Helpful Leader is the book James wishes someone had handed him before he stepped into his first leadership role.
