The Grief Carnival with Author Laraine Herring
About this Event
📅 Saturday | August 8 | 2:00 PM
📍 Peregrine Book Company
Join local author Laraine Herring for a celebration of the release of her newest book, The Grief Carnival: a book about loving what leaves. This 152-page full-color illustrated book is the second book in her popular Grief Forest series. In this book, Bunny deals with the anticipatory grief of the impending death of her beloved Barncat. The cast of characters she meets in the carnival help her live with the tension between fear and love that is present when caring for a beloved being who is dying. Drawing from both The Grief Forest and The Grief Carnival, Laraine will discuss the evolution of the main character, Bunny, from the initial sketch during COVID to the middle-aged big-bellied Bunny she is today, weaving in elements of art, storytelling, and grief work.
Laraine is also the author of A Constellation of Ghosts: a speculative memoir with ravens, editor of the anthology Becoming Real: Women Reclaim the Power of the Imagined through Speculative Nonfiction, and author of a trilogy of writing books from Shambhala: Writing Begins with the Breath; The Writing Warrior; and On Being Stuck: Tapping into the Creative Power of Writer's Block. She's a retired professor of psychology and creative writing. She's now focused on illustration, collage, and the combination of multiple art forms to create healing.
