The Grey 5K – First Responders’ Edition
This year, we are inviting local first responders to register and join us for a day of friendly competition, community, and purpose.
During Jaida’s battle, Essex County first response agencies stepped up in incredible ways to support Jaida and her family. That support has never been forgotten. In recognition, we are honoured to welcome local Fire, EMS, and Police services to this year’s event.

Not a first responder? No problem! This event is open to everyone, and all are welcome to walk or run alongside our local heroes.

Location: Sadler’s Nature Park & Trail, Town of Essex
(Same venue as last year)
Registration Opens: 8:00 AM
Run/Walk Begins: 10:00 AM
Distance: 5K Run or Walk

💛 Why We Run
Jaida Chartier was a 12‑year‑old Essex resident who bravely fought Diffuse Midline Glioma (H3K27‑mutant pediatric brain cancer) for 14 months before peacefully passing away on July 31, 2024. In keeping with a promise made by Jaida’s parents to pay it forward and continue Jaida’s fight, the Grey 5K Run/Walk raises funds for childhood cancer research, with a specific focus on pediatric brain cancer.
💰 $15,000 raised in 2025
🎯 Our goal is to surpass that total in 2026

The month of May is especially significant:
It is Brain Tumour / Brain Cancer Awareness Month, symbolized by the Grey Ribbon.
On May 31, 2023, Jaida’s battle began when she was airlifted from Windsor Regional Hospital – Ouellette Campus to London Children’s Hospital
