The Golden Hearts are an eclectic, high-energy Grateful Dead tribute band based in Denver, bringing a fresh and roots-driven approach to the music of the Dead and beyond. Formed in 2025 by Luke Blaser and John Bush, the band was born organically after a last-minute lineup change led to an unexpected musical chemistry that quickly evolved into a full project focused on celebrating the deeper spirit of the Grateful Dead songbook.
Rather than following the standard jam band tribute formula, The Golden Hearts dive into deep cuts and fan favorites spanning the worlds of the Grateful Dead, Jerry Garcia, Jerry Garcia Band, Grisman & Garcia, and Old and in the Way. Their sound blends bluegrass, rock, funk, Americana, improvisation, and psychedelic influences into a dynamic live experience that feels both reverent and original. Shows typically begin with an acoustic, bluegrass-driven set inspired by the music and collaborative spirit of Garcia and Grisman before opening into a second electrified Grateful Dead-inspired jam set filled with improvisation, groove, and high-energy musicianship.
Featuring Luke Blaser (vocals, acoustic guitar, mandolin), John Bush (vocals, mandolin, dobro, electric guitar), Rachel Moyle (vocals, percussion), George Sepmeier (vocals, percussion, violin, guitar), Todd Lilienthal (banjo), and Matt Thomas (vocals, upright bass, electric bass), the band also expands its lineup for select performances and themed shows. Known for spirited live sets and playful performances — including a recent all-Bob Weir tribute night at Goosetown Station — The Golden Hearts continue to build a growing following throughout Colorado’s live music scene.
