In this class, you'll create a portrait of an ancestor to explore how your past has contributed to who you are, and what gifts (and possibly trauma) it has gifted you.
Most of us do not want to display or hang the old family photos but what if you were to create something that worked in your decor? That is what this class is about in addition to teaching you many mixed-media painting skills that I have learned in my decades of painting.
This is also about creating a community with other creatives while exploring how allowing yourself to create is vital to your well-being.
I guarantee you will have a marvelous time and go home inspired to continue your creative journey.
In this class, you will:
- Explore the stories and photos of your ancestors to embrace and honour the gifts they gave you.
- Create a painting that celebrates your lineage by using acrylic photo transfers
-Learn mixed media and collage techniques
-Create a very rough self-portrait in the style of an ancestor portrait that communicates what you want your legacy to be
-Create and distress your ephemera*
-Listen to your creative impulses and break some rules!
-Let out your inner artist and make some new friends.
Enjoy a French picnic for lunch served with our signature Sage Lemonade, which will be enjoyed out in our beautiful gardens, weather permitting, and delight in the company of other creatives.
You don't need any experience however experienced artists will also learn new techniques.
All supplies are included, except for your photos and the ephemera* that you are going to collect and the photocopies that you are going make of those items so that you do not damage the original. If you wish to bring your own favourite art supplies that is encouraged and I would love it if you would share why they hold appeal for your art practice if you already have one.
*Ephemera are vintage printed or written items that originally served some specific purpose and were not expected to be retained or preserved, but are now cherished. Also included are various items that were likely to have been saved, such as wedding invitations, marriage certificates, passports, birth certificates, wills, deeds, divorce papers, stock certificates, promissory notes, and many other vintage documents.
