The Gift: A Tribute to Ian Tyson

For nearly two decades, The Gift has celebrated the music and legacy of legendary Canadian songwriter Ian Tyson. What began as a one-time tribute featuring Tyson's longtime collaborators has grown into a critically acclaimed production that continues to captivate audiences across Alberta and British Columbia.
Led by pianist and vocalist Stewart MacDougall, who toured, recorded, and wrote with Tyson, the band features an all-star lineup including Thom Moon, Gordie Matthews, Calvin Vollrath, Julian Kerr, Ian Oscar, Tracy Millar, and award-winning folk artist John Wort Hannam. Collectively, these musicians performed on much of Tyson's celebrated catalogue and were members of his legendary Chinook Arch Riders.
The Gift takes audiences on a journey through more than 50 years of iconic songs, from Four Strong Winds, Someday Soon, and Summer Wages to Navajo Rug, Springtime in Alberta, and 18 Inches of Rain.
Praised by audiences, critics, and Tyson himself, The Gift has appeared at major theatres and festivals across Canada. More than a tribute concert, it is a heartfelt celebration of one of Canada's greatest songwriters, performed by the musicians who helped bring his timeless music to life.
