Gristhorpe writer Wendy Pratt takes us on a journey to Lake Flixton, an extinct lake that used to lie between Muston, Flixton and Seamer. Home to Britain’s oldest house, a dwelling some 11,000 years old. Over the millennia, the vast lake disappeared, turning to wetland and peaty fields.Wendy is an author, poet and editor. She is proudly rural working class and her work centres around themes of belonging, rural identity, infertility and grief. She is the author of The Ghost Lake, a nature-landscape memoir exploring connection to history, place and belonging, published by Harper Collins in 2024.
She is also the author of six collections of poetry. Her latest collection, Blackbird Singing at Dusk explores themes of the female body in relationship with the rural landscape. Wendy is the founder and editor in chief of Spelt magazine; a full colour print magazine that seeks to validate and celebrate the rural experience through creative non-fiction, poetry, and poetry film.
