Viva Trini Lopez!
Join us for a joyful birthday celebration honoring the unforgettable music of Trini Lopez — the charismatic performer who brought Latin flair, folk rhythms, and pure showmanship to stages around the world. Come sing along, clap along, and celebrate the timeless music of an artist who knew how to turn every performance into a party.
A beloved Palm Springs resident and headliner at the legendary Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Trini helped define the sound of an era with infectious hits like If I Had a Hammer, This Land Is Your Land, Lemon Tree and so many more. His vibrant stage presence and crossover style made him an international star — but Palm Springs always held a special place in his heart. Trini performed with Gand Band regularly in Palm Springs, and is the subject of a documentary film, My Name Is Lopez, produced by Joan and Gary Gand, and available to watch on Amazon Prime. The Trini Lopez Exhibit at the Palm Springs Historical Society contains a collection of his costumes, gold records, photos and personal items.
Winner of the CV Independent’s Best Local Band for FOUR years running, this dynamic husband and wife team bring their Chicago sound to the desert.
Veteran bluesman Gary Gand handles the six strings, driving the band, channeling a bit of Freddie King, Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck rolled into one. Keyboardist Joan Gand grooves on classic Hammond B-3 style organ and blues piano with inspiration from Booker T, Ray Charles, and Otis Spann.
Throughout this series of monthly concerts, special guests will join the Gand Band including top notch performers from both Chicago and San Diego.
The Gand Band appears in the film,"My Name is Lopez" - a documentary about 60s celebrity vocalist/actor Trini Lopez. Trini was a frequent guest performer until his death in 2020.
