The Gaither Inn is The Stove's community meal – a chance to share food, stories and conversation while exploring the questions that shape the future of our town.
This month we're asking:
What does it really mean to be a place of sanctuary?
Sanctuary is about more than offering refuge. It's about how we welcome one another, how we build belonging, and how we create a town where everyone feels they have a place, whatever their background, experience or journey.
We'll be joined by Rosie Tapsfield, Director of Operations at City of Sanctuary UK, who has spent more than twenty years working alongside some of the UK's most marginalised communities. Throughout her career, Rosie has supported projects tackling isolation, housing, mental health, welfare and community cohesion, with a particular focus on refugees, people seeking asylum and forced displacement.
Previously, Rosie coordinated the City of Sanctuary movement across Newcastle, helping schools, universities, arts organisations and public spaces become recognised as Places of Sanctuary. Today she leads the national City of Sanctuary UK team, working to build a more welcoming UK for everyone.
Rosie will share her experiences before opening up a wider community conversation exploring what sanctuary could mean here in Dumfries. Together we'll ask: what does radical welcome look like in practice? Could Dumfries become a town where everyone feels they belong?
