In addition to honoring this year’s award winners, we’ll welcome Aldwyn Sappleton, Director of Research & Economic Analysis at the Oklahoma Department of Commerce, who will share insights on the future of economic development in Broken Arrow.Biography of Aldwyn Sappleton:
Aldwyn Sappleton currently serves as Director of the Research and Economic Analysis Division at Oklahoma Department of Commerce. In this role he is responsible for providing actionable business intelligence to key decision makers ranging from local/international businesses, community leaders, to the Governor. His team manages several incentives options offered by the state for infrastructure development, quality of life events, along with incentives that help businesses retool and/or access new markets. Aldwyn provides key support to the Aerospace and Defense sector along with all traditional and emerging industries driving Oklahoma’s growth. He also partly serves as an official liaison between Oklahoma and the US Census Bureau. Prior to being Director, Aldwyn worked in successive roles at Oklahoma Department of Commerce since 2007.
In addition to his work at the Department of Commerce Aldwyn Sappleton is known as an avid athlete that competed for the University of Oklahoma and his native country of Jamaica. Some top accomplishments include qualifying for the 2008 Olympics and being a member of a silver medal 4x400m team at the 2008 World Indoor Championships.
Aldwyn earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Business and Economics, as well as an MBA from the University of Oklahoma. He actively serves on the board of the Health Alliance for the Uninsured (HAU- a United Way Partner) and is a past President of Sister Cities OKC’s board. He was a member of the 2024 US Global Leadership’s (USGLC) Next Gen Leadership class and serves on the board of a new USAID non-profit in Oklahoma. Aldwyn grew up on a farm in a small town located in central Jamaica.
