In our next Future of Food series, we will have Civil Beat reporter, Thomas Heaton sit-down with University of Hawaii's Professor Susan E. Crow and banana grower, Gabe Sachter-Smith to discuss the future of agriculture in Hawai'i in the Era of Climate Change. The panel will explore how climate change impacts Hawaii's agriculture and how both researchers and producers are attempting to address these challenges. The discussion will cover topics such as “climate-smart” and organic farming practices, cropping system diversity and climate change adaptation, carbon sequestration and its role in soil quality, farming system resilience, and the potential markets for such commodities.
The event will take place on Friday, October 25 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Civil Beat headquarters in Kaimuki, located on the second floor above Goodwill Hawaii. Parking is located within the building at 3650 Waialae Avenue, entrance on Wilhelmina Rise. Parking validation will be provided for all attendees.
