The evening’s program spans a rich spectrum of the piano repertoire, from the poetic lyricism of Chopin’s Barcarolle and the spiritual radiance of Liszt’s The Fountains of the Villa d’Este, to the dazzling virtuosity of paraphrases on Strauss’s The Blue Danube and the dramatic intensity of Wagner–Liszt’s Isolde’s Liebestod. Liszt’s monumental Après une Lecture de Dante and Hungarian Rhapsody No. 6 showcase the Romantic tradition at its most visionary.
In dialogue with this heritage, Balázs offers his own improvisations on Hungarian folk songs, alongside modern Hungarian works including Peter Eötvös’s Dances of the Brush-Footed Butterfly and László Dubrovay’s Swallow Songs, affirming the living continuity of Hungarian music.
This concert is jointly organized by the Cziffra Festival and the Liszt Institute – Hungarian Cultural Center Brussels, with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation of Hungary.
