Join us for live music with The Fox Fires!
The Fox Fires is a North Carolina-based Americana and country band rooted in the traditions of storytelling, community, and the enduring spirit of Appalachian and Red Dirt music. Formed in the fall of 2025, the group brings together an all-star lineup of established North Carolina musicians, blending decades of experience into a sound that feels both timeless and unmistakably their own.
The band features Zachary David Terry alongside Jeremy Glasgow (Professor Twang), Sean Hayes (The Whiskey Smugglers), Randy Jones (Texoma), Linus Owen-Garni (Texoma), Luis Rodriguez (6 String Drag, Charles Latham & the Borrowed Band, The Shoaldiggers), and Omar Ruiz-Lopez (The War and Treaty, Franklin Jonas, Lizzie No, Langhorne Slim). Together, they weave Americana, classic country, Appalachian bluegrass, Southern rock, and Red Dirt influences into songs that celebrate the people, places, and traditions that shaped them.
The Fox Fires draws its name and inspiration from the Foxfire series, the beloved collection of books documenting the culture, craftsmanship, and self-sufficient traditions of Southern Appalachia. For songwriter Zachary David Terry, those books were more than a fixture on the family bookshelf; they represented the life he experienced growing up in the mountains of western North Carolina. His earliest memories are of front-porch bluegrass jams deep in the Globe community near Blowing Rock, where neighbors whose families traced their roots back generations gathered to play music after days spent farming, canning, sewing, and living from the land. Those experiences, and the values of hard work, humility, and connection to place, remain at the heart of The Fox Fires.
Born in the Red Dirt Country of North Texas and raised in a holler in western North Carolina, Terry grew up between two regions with rich musical traditions. Influenced by bluegrass, folk, outlaw country, Southern rock, and the storytelling of both Appalachia and Red Dirt country, he spent years performing with bands including The Whiskey Smugglers, The Magnolia Collective, and Texoma before returning to the music that first inspired him. The result is a collection of songs that feel equally at home on a mountain front porch, in a Texas dance hall, or under festival lights.
While Terry wrote many of the songs that became the foundation of the project, The Fox Fires was never intended to be a solo artist backed by a band. Every arrangement has been shaped by the collective creativity of its members, whose musicianship transformed the material into something far greater than its original form. The band's identity reflects that philosophy: these songs belong to the group, and every performance is the product of their shared passion and collaboration.
Whether delivering heartfelt ballads, driving country anthems, or high-energy Americana, The Fox Fires honors the past while creating music that feels fresh, authentic, and deeply human. Their live shows celebrate the roots of American music with rich harmonies, exceptional musicianship, and stories that connect generations, reminding audiences that the best songs are the ones that tell the truth, with a little hyperbole scattered in here and there.
