The Flummery is a collaborative ceramic exhibition by mother and daughter artists Janine Ronaldson and Ruby Pilven, developed through a shared studio practice and a lifelong dialogue with clay.
Rooted in still life, pattern, and colour, the exhibition reflects on domestic space as both sanctuary and pressure point. Everyday objects become sites of accumulation, of memory, care, repetition, and interruption where order and excess coexist. Forms reference the familiar while resisting resolution, shifting between the functional and the sculptural.
Clay operates as both material and metaphor: responsive, unstable, and enduring. Through intuitive making, surface patterning, and rhythmic repetition, the works speak to cycles of making and remaking, inheritance and divergence, intimacy and overwhelm.
The Flummery considers how lives are held within objects, how beauty persists amid disorder and how generational practice can be both an anchor and a point of rupture. Together, Ronaldson and Pilven present a body of work that embraces contradiction, humour, and fragility, offering ceramics as vessels for lived experience rather than fixed meaning.
Save the date: Sunday 8th November 2-4pm
