The Film Club with Christian Nyampeta
About this Event
Nyampeta convenes The Film Club as an extension of a tradition rooted in Pan-African histories of informal spaces for popular education, film clubs, study circles, and cultural gatherings dedicated to making, developing, and sharing knowledge. Accompanying the production of a new film, The Film Club is organized in collaboration with institutions in Philadelphia, New York, Kigali, and Shanghai, and as part of Nyampeta’s contribution to The Condition of Being Near at ICA Philadelphia.
Christian Nyampeta is an artist living in New York, from where he organizes programs, exhibitions, screenings, performances, and publications, which are conceived as hosting structures for collective feeling, cooperative thinking, and mutual action. Nyampeta is the convener of Boda Boda Lounge 2022-2024, a trans-African film and video art festival. In New York, Nyampeta convenes the African Film Institute at e-flux in Brooklyn
This program is presented with Fall of Freedom, a nationwide wave of creative resistance to counter fascist repression and censorship with joyful communities of defiant creativity.
