The Expanding Man Live at the Mount Dora Music Hall
Some tribute bands recreate the music. The Expanding Man reimagines it.
This isn't a note-for-note copy of Steely Dan — it's an original tribute to the music of Walter Becker & Donald Fagen, delivered by a trio of world-class musicians who know the material inside and out and aren't afraid to stretch it. The result: an evening of Steely Dan classics that honors the source while opening the door to improvisation, exploration, and the kind of unexpected musical moments Becker & Fagen themselves would appreciate.
At the front of the band is Steve Memmolo, an electrifying vocalist known nationally as a finalist on NBC's The Voice. Alongside him is blues-rock guitar virtuoso Jon Zeeman, whose credits include collaborations with Susan Tedeschi, Butch Trucks, and other members of The Allman Brothers Band. Rounding out the trio on keyboards is Peter Primamore, a multi-award-winning TV composer whose piano work brings both precision and playfulness to the group's sound.
Beyond the Steely Dan catalog, the band performs original compositions from their debut album Scene of the Crime — songs written in the tradition of Becker & Fagen's complex harmonies and lyrical mysteries, but entirely their own.
For fans of "Peg," "Reelin' In the Years," "Do It Again," "Josie," "Kid Charlemagne," and the whole Steely Dan songbook — and for anyone who appreciates virtuosic musicianship, sophisticated jazz-inflected rock, and the joy of a live show where the musicians are having as much fun as the audience — this is the one.
One night. Three world-class musicians. The music of Steely Dan and beyond.
