Russian Art Center in London is proud to present "Breathing Substance of Art" – an exciting dialogue between two outstanding artists, Svetlana Maksimenko and Gleb Skubachevsky, curated by Valentina Shaeva. The artists' works explore the materiality of art, turning it into a living substance that breathes, changes, and transforms.
Svetlana Maksimenko explores the fine line between reality and illusion, investigating how cultural, technological and ideological systems shape human perception. In her series of paintings Transition AI, the aesthetics and fragmented images reveal the influence of the digital environment on our identity and notions of authenticity. Svetlana uses a poetic visual language to question the power structures and illusions we believe in, and forces the viewer to consider their place in an ever-changing world. Her works have been exhibited in France, the UK and elsewhere, attracting attention with her research approach to art and philosophy.
Gleb Skubachevsky, a London-based artist with an academic background, pushes the boundaries of traditional painting, creating works at the intersection of painting and sculpture. His technique combines three-dimensional paper elements and painterly surfaces, creating the illusion of art extending beyond the canvas. Inspired by science, evolution and the changing nature of perception, Skubachevsky explores adaptation, multiple versions of reality and potential forms of alternative life. His works are fragile and aggressive, clear and mysterious at the same time, balancing between experiment and philosophical reflection. His works are in private collections around the world, including the UK, Germany, Italy, France, China and Brazil.
"Breathing Substance of Art" is an attempt to explore art as a living substance. Here, forms, colours and textures acquire a rhythm reminiscent of breathing. Svetlana Maksimenko and Gleb Skubachevsky offer viewers a new look at the dynamics of artistic space, showing how materiality becomes an expression of the inner world.
The exhibition invites viewers to interact: each object is not just a static work, but an impulse, a movement, a sensation. Visitors will be able to feel how art breathes, changes and reacts, turning the process of perception into a dialogue.
Come to see how art comes to life!
